Canterbury Anifest Youth Films
Another year of exciting work
Home Grown Talent 2011 is coming to a close and we have been busy working hard with young people from primary and secondary schools around Canterbury. The theme for the project was Masterpieces from the world of art being turned into animation. Each film was assigned an artist that we would base the animation around. The artists included Lowry, Su Blackwell, Blu Blu, Baz Luhrmann, and the Swan Lake Ballet.
We started our first week of the project working with a number of primary schools creating a chalk film inspired by the artist Lowry. We then spent three weeks creating three seperate films with secondary schools in Canterbury, covering a wide range of animation techniques including cut out, drawn, pixellation, experimental and Flash.
These films will be premiered to the public on Sunday 2nd Oct – 3.00pm at Canterbury Anifest as part of the Community Programme, all the young people involved will receive a DVD of the films. This was the 5th year that Home Grown Talent has taken place and in that time we have made 25 films including 5 making-of documentaries showing how the young people created each of their films. Each year the project takes place at Canterbury Christ Church animation department where the young people get to use Professional equipment and animation techniques.
